In a recent survey performed by J.D. Power, in the first quarter of 2023, 20.8% of EV drivers using public charging stations experienced charging failures or equipment malfunctions.

Damage to cables and charging equipment, through wear and tear, accidental damage, vandalism, theft or otherwise, can increase the risk of electric shock. Another potential source of electric shock is ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) failure.

One of the main risks associated with EV chargers is the electrical hazard risk. The high voltage and current involved in charging an electric vehicle can be dangerous if not handled properly. A faulty charger could cause electric shocks or fires, leading to personal injury or property damage.

Electric shocks do happen, but to reduce the severity of the injury, use recommended basic electrical safety measures, such as an electrically insulating (Rhino Switchboard) mat when connecting or disconnecting power cables and energizing.
